A little back-tracking to fill you in. After a week of no foot pain (still not running) I attempted to slowly start back up again, with permission from my PT. I ran Friday, and Saturday I intended on running with my group. They were going to run seven miles and I planned on 3. I didn't even make it through stretching. The pain was back, this time more beneath my foot than on the side. I went home, down but not defeated. Monday morning I made this appointment to get an X-ray and maybe some answers. The weird thing is, I walk fine on it. It used to hurt just to walk but it's not that bad anymore. Running triggered that weird pain again, though.
I got an X-ray and waited for an hour. Longest hour of my life, ya'll. The doctor comes in and tells me it is not a stress fracture. HOO-RAY! Best news I've heard. Ever. Then it felt like he just ran over my puppy. Boom. "Stop running. Some people are not made to be runners." Say what?! I have heard several of my runner friends tell me to never see a podiatrist because they are anti-running. This guy was just a GP, though. He told me to baby the foot for a long time, and give it a few months, but ultimately, no running. "Running is too hard on the body," he says. I remained calm and listened to his words, but I'm stubborn. I will be getting a second opinion. I am not sure whether a podiatrist is the answer or a Sports Medicine doctor, athletic trainer, etc.
I will continue getting my cardio on the bike and elliptical so I don't lose any endurance. It's not the same as a good, long run, but it is what it is. I will not be defeated by this. I am a runner. I am just experiencing a minor setback. I may be down but I am not out. I may not be running the 2013 Rock N Roll Half Marathon but you better believe I'll run 2014. This dog still has alot of fight left in her (Did I just call myself a dog? As long as it's a cute breed...)
Once again, I want to say thank you for all the amazing support I've gotten from you ladies. Where would I be without you? I promise to include every single one of you in my Grammy acceptance speech.
:)
I had a great weekend and a wonderful Monday. That's right, Monday. This weekend I'll be doing makeup for a huge Mardi Gras ball in my city and I have several women booked to beautify. This means my Saturday will be B-A-N-A-N-A-S (admit it, you just sang that like Gwen Stefani. Just me? Okay.) I am so excited Mardi Gras is early this year. It's my second favorite holiday. More on that later.
And lastly, best husband ever award goes to this man, for making me a healthy dinner on a nightly basis!
Hello. Yum.
You are a runner!!
ReplyDeleteRUN (maybe not literally run right NOW lol) to a different doc for another opinion. I'd be so deflated to hear what he said. Grr.
I'm glad it wasn't a stress fracture though.
Doctor's "practice" medicine and are not right a lot of the time! Don't give up you are a rock star and a Runner!! Hope you heal fast:)
ReplyDeleteThat's great it's not major, but give up running?! That guy must be crazy!! Don't push yourself too hard to get back at it, you don't want to make it worse. Keep your head up girl!!! I'm here for you!! :)
ReplyDeleteJust started following thanks to Mama Laughlin. I think you should get a second opinion for sure. A sports medicine doctor might be the way to go. If you love running, find a way to make it happen! Love your blog btw!!
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't think I'd take this guy's opinion. Time to go and see a specialist. My podiatrist is a runner, he runs 1/2 marathons all of the time, so not all of them are against running.
ReplyDeleteGood luck this weekend, it seems like a lot of fun, even if it's bananas!!
Man, what a horrible thing - I hope he's wrong and you get a second opinion - how can somone just tell you youre not a runner, um isnt that up to you? Keep us posted :)
ReplyDeleteGet a second opinion. Also, what is that he made? Looks like Chinese with no rice? Broccoli slaw? Hook a girl up! Looks delish!
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt give up running. I tore my ACl, but I survived to run today. Just rest for now...and get a second opinion! Feel better!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you are in pain. But I agree with the others, get a second opinion. You are such an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI would have sucker punched that doc in the gut and pouted the rest of the appointment.
ReplyDeleteUgh, very deflecting, I'm sure! Get a second opinion and wishing you'll the luck in the world!
I've never celebrated Mardi Gras but y'all are making me want to do it up!!
The doctor may have says no running, but he didn't say no skipping....
ReplyDeleteP.S. Saw your workout shorts on IG. Congratulations! :)
cutest doggy ever!!! good luck w your second opinion!
ReplyDeleteYou totally need a second opinion. Don't let it get you down. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the others: get the second opinion! Fingers are crossed for ya!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the 2nd opinion! Good to see you are staying on track and not getting too down on yourself!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely get a second opinion. Until then your plan sounds good and I love your determination.
ReplyDeleteThat dinner looks amazing! What's the recipe?
Yay! Way to keep it up and not let it get you down :D
ReplyDeleteyou are a freaking runner!!!! way to be positive...and kick that doctor in the shins next time!
ReplyDeleteLove that you're so positive! Definitely get a second opinion. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGotta love a man who cooks! I'm sorry to hear about your foot but your attitude is amazing. Definitely get a second opinion. You can do it girl!
ReplyDeleteAs you said the eliptical is a good option!!! You can totally reach your goals with it! Who knows he may be wrong and you will be pounding pavement before you know it!

I highly recommend getting a 2nd opinion on something like "don't run, ever." But major props to you for continuing on with your weight loss journey! I love your good attitude! It's infectious!
ReplyDeleteI feel like the only things doctors should say "don't ever" to are smoking and jumping off tall buildings without a parachute. I'm not a medical professional, but it seems ridiculous to tell someone not to participate in any form of exercise. Get a second (and maybe third) opinion, get on the elliptical for the time being and then rock your next race.
ReplyDeleteNow dang it, that's not the news I was hoping for! I'm sorry to hear that though! I really am. :( I would definitely get another opinion.
ReplyDeleteAwwww so sorry, that kinda blows but don't be discouraged, the bright side is there are LOTS of different kinds of cardio you can you. I'm telling you , spin is amazing. for reals.
